Lucius Fairchild – The former General thanks prominent Michigan businessman Peter White for a gift to his daughter. The 2 ½ page ALS is dated April 28, 1895. It is written on a folded four-page 8vo sheet.  Strong handwriting and signature with typical flattened mailing folds.

Fairchild was a Civil War officer of the Iron Brigade. He saw action at the Battle of Antietam and lost an arm at Gettysburg from a wound at Seminary Ridge on the first day of the battle.  Lincoln promoted him to Brig. General following Gettysburg.
