Hamilton Fish signed engraving.  The 1869 image by the Bureau of Engraving & Printing is signed with a large enthusiastic signature and paraph.

Fish was one of the most influential political figures of the Grant era.  New York Congressman, Lt. Governor, Governor and U. S. Senator were early roles in politics. His crowning achievement though was in the appointed role of Secretary of State under President Grant. He was one of Grant’s closest advisors. Fish’s personal legacy continued for generations as the founder of a New York political dynasty. Four generations of direct descendants followed his lead by sitting in Congress representing New York through the 1990’s.

Condition. The direct engraving is 3.5 x 4 on a larger sheet of 5.75 x 7.75.  There is considerable foxing along the edges touching a couple strokes of his signature. Priced accordingly.
