Ford, Gerald R.

$500.00

Gerald Ford seeks Party unity after 1976 GOP nomination win against Reagan. Signed letter “Jerry Ford”, August 30, 1976, to California Congressman Del Clawson.

Just two prior, Ford narrowly won the Republican nomination over Reagan in the last hard-fought convention battles of the 20th Century. Clawson, a Reagan supporter during the primaries, pledged support to Ford after the convention.  Clawson served in the House since 1963 alongside Ford.

In a gracious reply, Ford captured the strategic challenge in uniting the party if we was to have a chance of winning in November. "It is reassuring to know that your confidence and loyalty will be reflected in the total team effort which will bring us to victory on November 2."

This is a desirable Presidential letter referencing the last great convention fight Although it does not mention Reagan by name it is also a wonderful association piece for Reagan collectors.

Condition: The letter is in excellent, fresh condition with an inconspicuous single envelope fold.  The bold “Jerry Ford” signature is visually striking. It is , accompanied by the original unstamped White House envelope, hand-delivered to Clawson’s Congressional office.
