The future Justice sends James Van Sant some biographical information on a former Minnesota Governor Samuel Rinnah Van Sant. At a dinner party, Blackmun asked Van Sant about his possible connection to the 19th Century Governor. Apparently drawing no information, Blackmun offered to do a little more digging. Blackmun was obviously a history buff and did a fair amount of digging as evident in the page and a half of biography he prepared.
