Three Mercury astronauts sign a photo with JFK and LBJ

Gordon Cooper, Walter Schirra, Scott Carpenter – three of the original seven Mercury astronauts - sign an important space photo. The 8 x 10 image pictures all seven astronauts and their wives on the steps of the Rose Garden. President Kennedy is seen at a microphone with Vice President Johnson looking on. The three space pioneers signed on the white photo border, Schirra and Carpenter with a heavy felt pen, Cooper with a finer ball point pen.

Condition. Excellent, the image is fine, the three signatures are excellent examples. This has been professionally framed in an elaborate double matted, window cutting that accentuates rather than overwhelming an historic photo. The image, at sight, is approximately 7.75 x 9. The overall dimensions of the frame are 15 x 16.5.

Group photos signed by two or more of the earliest astronauts are desirable. It is uncommon to find signed photos of the early astronauts with Kennedy or Johnson. This outstanding souvenir of the early space program records one of Kennedy’s crowning achievements as the President who challenged America to land a man on the moon by the end of the decade.
