Richard Nixon – A letter on his first major foreign policy engagement

Vice President Nixon thanks his friend Congressman Carrol Kearns for a congratulatory welcome-home message.  In the fall of 1953 Nixon went on his first foreign trip as Vice President. The Goodwill Tour to the Far East lasted more than two months. 

The January 4, 1954, letter stands out for the association with a pivotal experience in Nixon’s development as a global statesman. Nixon devoted almost 20 pages of his memoirs to journey, citing it as a formative experience that shaped his views on Asia, communism, global leadership. The trip laid the groundwork for many of the foreign policy relationships and insights that would later define his presidency – including the historic opening to China.

Condition: One page on Vice President stationary signed “Dick”. It is in excellent condition, making a visually appealing example.
