There is some chips along the margins, some old repairs to a few weak folds and a few small holes in spots. Overall, an attractive commission.
Chase was a leading political figure who served as Governor of Ohio, ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination in 1860. Lincoln appointed him Sec. of the Treasury and later elevated him to Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
