Hale, Sarah Josepha -  Author, poet and influential editor. One page ALS Febry, 3, 1848(?), to one of her publishers Carey & Hart suggesting that it might be better if they sent her poems to editors in her city than other cities. There are slight mounting traces on the reverse otherwise in excellent condition.

Hale’s poetry and writing is remembered today largely for her children’s poem “Mary Had a Little Lamb.” Her influence though was greater as a magazine  editor.  She used her influence to push for a national holiday to commemorate Thanksgiving and is often credited with being the driving force behind Lincoln’s call for a national day of prayer and Thanksgiving in November 1863.
