Condition. Fragile. The writing is strong and clear. The paper is thin and somewhat dry with noticeable chipping on the sides, leaving some loss in margins and the start of a few tears along the folds, which can be repaired. There are upper blank margin notations in pencil.
Van Rensselaer was a General during the War of 1812, he would then become New York’s Lt. Governor under John Jay, US Congressman and established Rensselaer College (Polytechnic Institute). In the small world of early America’s elite social and political families, he married into the Schuyler family. and his brother-in-law was Alexander Hamilton.
